Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY-The Louisville Bats returned from the All-Star break on Thursday night, but a nightmare fourth inning doomed the squad in a 9-6 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in front of 10,265 at Louisville Slugger Field.

Bats starter Homer Bailey (6-2), optioned from the parent Cincinnati Reds, allowed six runs off six hits, while striking out four Yankee batters in the losing effort.

Trailing 3-1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre managed to score five runs off Bailey in the fourth, including a one-out triple by Justin Christian to give the Yankees a three-run advantage.

Designated hitter Shelley Duncan scored the eventual game-winning run with a solo home run to lead off the seventh and added an insurance run with another solo shot to lead off the ninth.

Center fielder Jay Bruce, making his Triple-A debut for the Bats, launched a 411-foot home run over the right field wall in the sixth inning. He finished his evening 1-for-4 with an outfield assist in the seventh inning.

Yankees starter Chase Wright (7-3) won his fourth straight decision after six innings of work. He allowed four earned runs off six hits, and struck out two. Closer Jim Brower earned his 15th save of the season after striking out the side in the ninth inning.

The second game of the four-game tilt will be Friday evening. RHP Tom Shearn (4-7, 4.28 ERA) for Louisville and RHP Steven White (3-2, 4.13 ERA) are the scheduled starters for the 7:05p.m. first pitch.
