Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, Mass. - Rox LF Mike Conroy went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI as Brockton took an 11-2 lead after four innings and coasted to an 11-7 win over the Pittsfield Colonials in Can-Am League action at Campanelli Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Brockton (26-18) took the lead on its first batter of the game when 2B Scott Wearne hit a triple and then scampered home after an error by Pittsfield (16-27) 1B Danny Leon. Pittsfield tied the game in the second inning, but the Rox regained the lead for good in their half of the frame, with C Chris Grossman drawing a two-out walk, CF Chris Valencia singling, and Conroy bringing both home with a three-run blast.
Pittsfield made it a 4-2 game in the fourth with C Chris Torres' solo blast with two outs. Brockton then responded with seven runs in its half of the frame to put the game out of reach. Grossman doubled to lead off the inning, and was then brought home by Valencia's triple, followed by an RBI single by Conroy. Conroy later scored on a sacrifice fly by 1B Melvin Falu. Later in the inning, 3B Phillip Cuadrado brought home SS Dominic Ramos with an RBI single, before DH Clyde Williams drove in Cuadrado and RF Keith Brachold with a three-run shot of his own to make it an 11-2 game.
The Colonials clawed back into the game with single runs in the fifth and seventh, as well as a three-run ninth, but it wasn't enough as the Rox took their second complete game victory of the three-game set (Brockton also won the completion of a suspended game on Monday).
Wayne Lundgren (6-2) earned the win for the Rox, allowing three runs on five hits in six innings of work, striking out four. Pittsfield starter Trevor Marcotte (2-3) was roughed up by the Brockton bats, going just three and two-thirds innings and giving up eight runs.
Wearne, Valencia and Conroy each had two hits for the Rox, while SS Matt Nandin and Cabreja each had a pair of base knocks for the Colonials.
Brockton is idle Wednesday before traveling to New Jersey to start a three-game set on Thursday. Mike Smith (5-3) is on the mound for the Rox at 7:05 p.m.
