Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Appleton, WI - The Cedar Rapids Kernels plated six runs through the first two innings of play on Saturday evening but were held both scoreless and hitless from the third on as they fell 7-6 to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Yunior Severino and Aaron Sabato each blasted two-run shots for the Kernels while Alerick Soularie added a two-hit night. Cedar Rapids moves to 58-37, 15-14 in the second half.
Severino opened the scoring for Cedar Rapids in the first with a monster 441-foot two-run home run to dead center. Wisconsin responded with a five-run first on a pair of long balls, taking a 5-2 lead.
The Kernels came right back with a four-spot in the second, highlighted by a Soularie RBI double followed by a Sabato go-ahead two-run bomb down the left field line. Wisconsin added a run in the home half to draw things even at six.
After Wisconsin picked up one in the fourth to go up 7-6, both bullpens took over and held fast. Ryan Shreve struck out three over 1.2 scoreless, Jon Olsen punched out four while firing 2.0 shutout frames and Hunter McMahon faced the minimum in the eighth.
The series finale is set for 1:10 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon in Appleton.
