Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria Chiefs (St. Louis Cardinals) hit a walk-off home run at Dozer Park on Saturday night to come from behind and beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 7-6.
The 'Caps (13-16, 40-55) held leads of 2-0 and 5-2. However, the Chiefs (13-16, 40-55) won it on a two-run blast by right fielder Todd Lott, a cousin of former NFL Pro Bowl defensive back Ronnie Lott.
Fort Wayne is 11-12 in games decided by one run this season. The TinCaps are also 5-13 in two-run games.
The Summit City squad initially took a lead in the second inning as third baseman Lucas Dunn delivered an RBI triple and left fielder Corey Rosier supplied a sacrifice fly.
After Peoria tied the game in the ensuing half inning, Fort Wayne moved back ahead in the fifth thanks to a two-run double by center fielder Robert Hassell III. The 'Caps upped their lead to 5-2 in the sixth with a Rosier run-scoring hit. He's now on a nine-game hitting streak, and his .384 season on-base percentage ranks eighth in the Midwest League. Rosier stole his 33rd base of the year in this game as well. He ranks fourth in the circuit in that category.
Again, though, the Chiefs rallied with two of their own in the sixth and another in the seventh to equalize.
TinCaps right fielder Joshua Mears, MLB.com's No. 8 Padres prospect, put his team ahead in the eighth, 6-5, with a single to plate Dunn from second base. Mears had a team-high two hits, and has reached base safely in 13 consecutive High-A games. That advantage held until Lott's heroics with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
The 'Caps conclude their nine-game road trip Sunday, seeking a split of the six-game set. They commence a six-game homestand against South Bend on Tuesday.
Next Game: Sunday, July 31 @ Peoria (2:35 p.m.)
