
Eagles Win in Overtime against New Mexico, 4-3

Windsor, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) were victorious in overtime tonight in the presence of a sold out, 5,211, fans at the Budweiser Events Center, 4-3 against the New Mexico Scorpions. The Colorado Eagles have sold out every home game of their inaugural 2003-04 season. The Eagles are now 14-5-1 and have 29 points. The Scorpions are now 9-9-2 on the season with 20 points. Eagles left winger Ryan Tobler had the game winning goal and his first hat trick of the season. Center Riley Nelson also netted a goal in the game. Defenseman Scott Swanson and center Nelson each tallied three assists. Defenseman Brad Williamson had two assists on the night.
The Scorpions struck early in the first period when defenseman Shaun Peet netted a goal from left wingers Kevin Edgar and Josh Tymchak 4:28 into the period. Although the Eagles out shot the Scorpions 15 to 9, Colorado did not score. The period ended with a 1-0 Scorpion lead.
The second period began on a Scorpion power play. New Mexico defenseman Jeff Alcombrack scored on the power play (2:20) from left wingers Mike Possin and Edgar. The Eagles out shot the Scorpions again in the second 18 to 9, but couldn't get the puck past New Mexico netminder Danny Lorenz. The period ended with a 2-0 New Mexico lead.
The Eagles began the third period eager to score, and that's exactly what center Riley Nelson did only one minute twelve seconds into the period when he scored on a power play from defensemen Williamson and Swanson. Eagles left winger Tobler netted a goal (9:22) from Swanson and Nelson, evening the score 2-2. Twenty seconds later the Scorpions answered Tobler's goal when defenseman Vladimir Hartinger scored from center Mike Oliveira. Still fighting, the Eagles scored again (16:40) when Tobler struck on a power play from Nelson and Williamson. The period ended with a 3-3 tie, sending the game into overtime.
With only nine seconds remaining in overtime, Tobler netted the game winning goal and his first hat trick of the season from Swanson and Nelson, ending the game 4-3 Eagles.
Eagles goaltender Gian Baldrica saved 24 of 27 shots on goal. The Eagles out shot the New Mexico Scorpions 58 to 27. The Colorado Eagles are now 14-5-1 on the season with 29 points. The Eagles are first in the Northwest Division and in sole possession of third place in the league overall.

The Eagles leave for a four game road trip. They will face the Corpus Christi Ice Rays Friday, December 5 at 6:05 p.m. (MST); the Laredo Bucks, Saturday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. (MST); the Rio Grande Killer Bees Sunday, December 7 at 5:05 p.m. (MST); and the San Angelo Saints Tuesday, December 9 at 6:05 p.m. (MST). The Eagles will return home to skate against Wichita Friday, December 12 at 7:05 p.m. (MST) and they will face the New Mexico Scorpions Saturday, December 13 at 2:37 (MST). (The December 13 game will be the Eagles first televised game, the game will air on UPN 20).
