TWO TIME ALL-STAR IS A PEACH
VETERAN FORWARD CHRIS PEACH ADDS OFFENSE FOR BEES
HIDALGO, TX: December 3, 2003 â The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League made a major roster adjustment today by placing rookie forward Jonathan Parker on waivers and claiming free agent forward Chris Peach.
"He is an all-star forward that adds another scoring touch to our squad," said Killer Bees Head Coach Tracy Egeland. "I tried to make a trade for him last season while I was in Lubbock, and I am happy to have him on our squad this season."
Peach is a 5'9" 175-pound native of St. John's, Newfoundland and started off this season with the San Angelo Saints. He ranked fourth on the Saints squad in points, prior to his release, with 3 goals and 9 assists for 12 points. Peach was in his third season with San Angelo, joining the San Angelo Outlaws in 2000-01 and finishing second on the squad in scoring with 29 goals and 34 assists for 63 points in 61 games. Last season, the Outlaws changed ownership and changed their nickname to the Saints, and Peach also made a change moving from the wing to the center position. It did not slow Peach down though, as he led the team in scoring with 23 goals and 44 assists for 67 points, earning a trip to Oklahoma City for the 2003 CHL All-Star Game. Last season's Saints "Iron Man" and "Team MVP" was released last week and leaves the Concho Valley as San Angelo's all-time leading scorer under the "Saints" nickname with 26 goals and 53 assists for 79 points in 82 games.
The 31-year old Peach played college hockey at the University of New Brunswick prior to turning pro during the 96/97 season with the Waco Wizards of the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL). Peach had his best season following two seasons in Waco with the Alexandria Warthogs of the WPHL, as he spent the 99/00 season with 43 goals and 34 assists for 77 points and earned a spot in the 2000 WPHL All-Star Game in Amarillo. In two seasons with Alexandria, Peach would leave as the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 139 points in 137 games off of 72 goals and 67 assists. He headed across the Atlantic to Germany in 00/01, but returned after 11 games and played with the Fort Worth Brahmas and the Odessa Jackalopes of the WPHL. Peach began the 01/02 season in El Paso before heading to San Angelo. Peach is in his eighth professional season and with the combined records of the WPHL and CHL (records combined with the leagues merging prior to the 01/02 season), Peach ranks 15th on the league's all-time list for games played in the leagues with 436 (6th among active players), 36th all-time in assists with 203 (13th among active players) and 32nd all-time in points with 376 (12th among active players). Include the 11 games Peach played in Germany into his pro career numbers and they equal out to 175 goals and 205 assists for 380 points in 447 games.
Parker departs the Killer Bees after appearing in 6 games with the team. The 6'3" 235-pound Winnipeg native had only 1 assist in 6 games. He had been acquired on November 17th from the New Mexico Scorpions in a trade for future considerations. The 21 year-old rookie right winger has a goal and an assist in 15 games this season, as he opened the season with the San Angelo Saints before playing with the New Mexico Scorpions and the Killer Bees.
