Kings Reward Hard Work

December 3, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

LUBBOCK – Lubbock Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kirk Tomlinson announced today that Joe Blaznek has been named as the first alternate captain.

"The ‘A' is given to an unselfish leader that works hard," said Tomlinson. "He has improved every day and his work ethic has separated himself. I see this as giving him the torch for the rest of the season – both he and (Dave) MacIntyre need to lead this team every night."

This past week and weekend, the Kings won two of their three contests and proved that their goaltending could shutdown the opposition.

"We were one second away from attaining five out of a possible six points this last weekend," said Tomlinson. "The goaltending allowed one goal in two of the contests and we beat the top two teams in our division."

The Kings lost Friday night against Odessa 3-2 by allowing a goal in the last second of regulation.

IR Note: Steve Birch and Derek Holland were placed on the two week injured reserve on Nov. 22 and 19 respectively. Jeff Dewar was placed on the 45-day injured reserve list on Nov. 8.

The Kings play in Wichita, Kansas, Friday night before returning to play the floundering Austin Ice Bats in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday. The Kings will try to regain the season series advantage against division leading Amarillo in the Jungle on Sunday. This next weekend will be the second back-to-back-to-back series of the season.

Tickets are limited but still available for the sellout game December 6 against Austin. Tickets can be picked up at Select-a-Seat locations or by calling 806.747.PUCK (7825).
