Colorado Eagles News Release

Tuesday, October 16; Eagles Trim Roster

The Eagles made their first moves in trimming their roster to the league-mandated limit of 19 players by waiving Mike Lukajic and Tyson Terry. Lukajic entered the league with the now-defunct Topeka Tarantulas in 2004-05; he led the team in goals (33), points (53), and was second in assists (20), earning him All-Star honors as a rookie. He has also played in the CHL for the Oklahoma City Blazers (twice), the Corpus Christi Rayz and the Tulsa Oilers. Terry, the 5-11, 190-pounder helped lead the Geneseo Knights to two SUNYAC Conference Championships in his two seasons with the team.

Wednesday, October 17; Colaiacovo & Lounsbury Let Go

Colorado made their final roster moves before the league deadline by parting ways with goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo and developmental defenseman Jonathan Lounsbury. Colaiacovo helped lead the Eagles to their first championship in 2004-05 as he went 4-0 in the playoffs, registering a 1.00 GAA and a .962 SV%. He started -- and won -- every series-clinching game in the 2005 playoffs, topping it off with a 36-save shutout against the Laredo Bucks to clinch the title. The goaltender is currently the winningest netminder in Eagles history with a career mark of 43-17-5, a 2.55 GAA and a .916 SV%. Lounsbury came to the Eagles from the Southern Professional Hockey League after registering 48 points (4-44-48) with the Huntsville Havoc last season; those totals made him the league's highest scoring defenseman. The Winthrop, Massachusetts native previously attended the University of Southern Maine, averaging 24 points a season over four years.

Wednesday, October 17; Colorado Eagles Roster: Volume 5

The defending champs released their finalized roster of 19 players, and it looked a lot like the roster that won the President's Cup just months earlier. Returning were the team's core veterans and almost all of the supporting cast. Some key additions were goaltenders Clayton Pool and Ian Keserich, defensemen Jason Beatty and Paul Esdale, and forward Dave Iannazzo. Two players began the season on the 14-day Camp IR (Marco Emond and Les Borsheim).

Friday, October 19; Eagles Open Season With Shootout Loss in AZ

The defending President's Cup champion Colorado Eagles celebrated the opening of their 5th Anniversary season and a Ryan Tobler career milestone, but little else as the Arizona Sundogs came back to beat the champs 6-5 in a shootout. The game featured quality play from both teams, but in the end, Arizona's power play and the saves of rookie goalie Bill Zaniboni were just too much for Colorado. The Sundogs went 3-for-9 on the man advantage, while the Eagles only had four power plays the entire night (one in overtime). Zaniboni stopped 36 of 41 shots, while Colorado's starting netminder, Clayton Pool, stopped 30 of 35. The only real bright spot for the Eagles was Tobler registering his 500th professional point -- with his second goal of the game -- in the second period.

Saturday, October 20; Eagles Swept by Sundogs

The Colorado Eagles dropped another high-scoring contest to the Arizona Sundogs, 7-6 at the Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Ariz. The game was strikingly similar to the season opener between the same two clubs a night before as the defending champion Eagles spent much of the game in the penalty box, and the young and talented Sundogs made them pay. Ian Keserich replaced Clayton Pool in net heading into the second period, but faired no better. The Eagles left Arizona having never beaten the Sundogs at home (0-5-1).
