Week In Review

Wednesday, January 24 Eagles 1 vs. Laredo Bucks 3

The Laredo Bucks ended the Colorado Eagles 19-game home winning streak Wednesday night with a 3-1 win at the Budweiser Events Center in front of the 130th consecutive sellout crowd. Eric Marvin was the difference in the game saving 31 of 32 shots in net for Laredo and Jeff Bes scored the game-winning goal at the 13:56 mark of the first period. The Bucks killed all five of the Eagles power play chances while converting on two of their six opportunities. The Eagles have only lost twice this season at the Budweiser Events Center and not since opening night on October 20, 2006. Chris Hartsburg had the lone goal for Colorado.

Friday, January 26 Eagles 5 at Tulsa Oilers 1

The Colorado Eagles beat the Tulsa Oilers 5-1 Friday night at the Tulsa Convention Center in front of 4,187 fans. Ed McGrane had two goals including his fifth shorthanded goal of the season and Marco Emond beat his former team only giving up one goal in the final minute of the game. Seth Leonard added a goal and two assists and Brad Williamson tallied two assists as the Eagles bounced back from just their second home loss of the season on Wednesday.

Saturday, January 27 Eagles 2 at Wichita Thunder 4

The Wichita Thunder defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-2 Saturday night behind the goaltending of Sebastien Laplante who had 47 saves in the win. Colorado more than double Wichita's shots on goal at 49-24 however they were unable to get the puck past Laplante. Riley Nelson and Ed McGrane scored the goals for the Eagles and four different players scored for the Thunder.

Sunday, January 28 Eagles 1 at Oklahoma City Blazers 3

The Colorado Eagles lost their second straight game Sunday evening to the Oklahoma City Blazers 3-1at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. The loss also marked the Eagles third loss in the last four games as Colorado finished their three-game road trip with just one victory. Brent Hughes had Colorado's only goal in the contest just 2:08 into the game, then Sebastien Centomo took over in the Blazers net finishing with 34 saves on 35 shots. Three different Blazers scored as they gained a game on the Eagles in the Northwest Division standings

Week Ahead

Wednesday, January 31 vs. Youngstown SteelHounds, 7:05 p.m. MST Radio: 107.9 The Bear

The Eagles will take on the SteelHounds Wednesday night for the last time at the Budweiser Events Center. Youngstown is currently in third place in the Northeast Division. It will be the first and only trip back for former Eagles forward Garrett Larson who has five goals in five games with Youngstown after having only three goals in 32 games with Colorado. The Eagles have not lost to the SteelHounds through the first five games of the all-time series and they have outscored Youngstown 17-6.

Friday, February 2 at Oklahoma City Blazers, 6:35 p.m. MST Radio: 107.9 The Bear

Colorado heads to Oklahoma City for the second time in seven days. They are 1-1 this season against the Blazers and the game on Friday night will be the third straight game in Oklahoma City. The Blazers will come to the BEC twice this season, once on February 16 and once on March 13.

Saturday, February 3 at Wichita Thunder, 6:05 p.m. MST Radio: 107.9 The Bear

The Eagles take on the Thunder for the second straight Saturday game at the Kansas Coliseum. Colorado won the first three meetings between the two teams this season before losing to Wichita on Saturday night 4-2, a game in which the Eagles out shot Wichita 49-24.

Ed McGrane 3 games (3-1-4)

19 Straight- Following their 5-4 loss on opening night to the Rocky Mountain Rage, the Eagles won 19 straight games at the Budweiser Events Center before losing to the Laredo Bucks 3-1 on Wednesday night. Colorado was two short of the Central Hockey League record for consecutive home wins set by the Bucks in the 2003-04 season. In the 19 game winning streak, the Eagles more than doubled their opponents in scoring, 88-42 at home.

Tough Road Trip- The Eagles finished their three-game road trip with just one win. They played four games in five days last week and traveled overnight three times during the trip. The back-to-back losses suffered on Saturday and Sunday marked just the second time this season the Eagles have lost back-to-back games. The Eagles have not lost three games in a row yet this season.

Still Leading- Colorado still has the best record in the CHL at 30-8-0 for 60 points. They are just one point ahead of the Memphis RiverKings who have a record of 28-8-3 although Memphis has played one more game than Colorado. The Laredo Bucks lead the Southern Conference and are just two points behind Colorado for the overall lead in the league although they have played two more times than the Eagles.

Shorthanded Ways Continue- The Eagles scored their 24th shorthanded goal of the season on Friday night against the Tulsa Oilers. They lead the CHL in that category and are only three shorthanded goals away from the CHL single-season record. The next closest team is the Oilers who have 14 shorthanded goals this season.
