Odessa Jackalopes News Release

Dear Jackalope Fans,

This past weekend, a very difficult decision was announced regarding the future of the Odessa Jackalopes organization.

Ownership had planned to ask for Coach McKee's resignation on Tuesday, January 23, 2007. With the unfortunate passing of Don's father the evening prior to this, along with his departure to Canada early Tuesday morning, we debated the timing of informing him of our decision. We concluded that Wednesday, January 24th, two days prior to the memorial service, was the most sensitive time to inform him of our decision. This would enable Coach McKee to remain in Canada with his family for an extended period during their time of need. To rush back to Odessa on Saturday, one day after the memorial, to be informed of our decision seemed unfair to the McKee family.

It was important to Don that the organization waited until Saturday to release the information in order to honor his father's life and not create a distraction for the memorial service.

While this transition is very unsettling for everyone in the organization, our sincere desire was to inform Coach McKee of our decision ourselves as opposed to waiting an extended period of time so as to perhaps alleviate the possibility of any rumors.

We truly wish Don and Shirley the very best and will always consider them to be our friends.

Sincerely,

Rick Gasser
