LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, with the help of the Larimer and Weld County Sheriff's departments and Lucky Joe's of Fort Collins, were able to raise $41,259.17 for Wesley Martin and his family in the third annual Pot of Gold Fundraiser. The amount raised overshadowed the 4-1 loss the Colorado Eagles (28-18-6-4) suffered to the Ontario Reign (36-17-2-3) on Saturday's game at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Eagles were the first to get on the board as forward Kevin Ulanski found the back of the net from the point right off of a face-off to give the Eagles the 1-0 advantage less than three minutes into the first frame. Reign defenseman Steven Tarasuk tied the score at 1-1 as he buried a rebound 12:41 into the first period.

Ontario took the 2-1 lead, 13:34 into the second period as forward Maxim Kitsyn scored topshelf with a hard wrist shot over Eagles netminder Marc Cheverie.

The Eagles pulled Cheverie to add another attacker on the ice in an attempt to tie the game but Ontario took advantage as forward Sebastian Stalberg threw the puck on the empty net to give the Reign the 3-1 lead with less than two minutes left. The final straw came as Cheverie was still pulled and Ontario forward Everett Sheen scored the Reign's second empty-net goal of the evening to finalize the 4-1 win over the Eagles.

Tonight's third annual Pot of Gold recipient, Wesley Martin, suffers from a grapefruit-sized cyst on his brain and requires a specialized surgery this summer, which is not covered by his family's medical insurance. To learn more or to make a donation please visit kissedbyanangel.org.

The Eagles head to Alaska next week to take on the Aces for three games.
