April 24, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (3-2-0-0) were ignited by three assists from forward Taylor Vause to reclaim the 3-2 series lead against the Ontario Reign (2-3-0-0), with a 4-1 victory Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
Colorado started Game Five right where they left off on Wednesday night, as forward Kyle Kraemer punched home a Colin Joe rebound to put the Eagles up 1-0 8:50 into the game.
The Reign would shove back on a toe-drag from forward Judd Blackwater 1:09 into the second, as Eagles defenseman Colin Joe fell victim to a questionable hit in front of the Colorado bench. The Eagles regained the lead, 2-1, 6:58 later on a tough-angle shot from forward Trent Daavettila after a cross-slot pass from Vause in the midst of a 5-on-3 power play.
Eagles defenseman Teigan Zahn electrified the night on a one-time slapshot from teammate Derek Rodwell right in front of Ontario netminder Jussi Olkinuora with 14:18 remaining in the contest. Not to be outdone, Brock Nixon continued to pile it on the Reign with a breakaway goal 5:08 later, putting the Eagles in a commanding 4-1 lead.
Colorado goaltender Clarke Saunders had one of his better outings, stopping 36 of 37 shots from the Reign. The series resumes on Monday for Game Six at Ontario, with the Eagles having the opportunity to advance to Round Two.
