Eagles lose 2nd straight in OT to Arizona, 3-2

WINDSOR, CO - The Colorado Eagles lost their second straight overtime game 3-2 to the Arizona Sundogs Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Brent Kelly scored two goals for the Sundogs including the game-winning goal in overtime and his teammate Chris King stopped 38 of 40 shots in goal. The game was the final game of the pre-season for both Colorado and Arizona who start the season on October 20th. The Eagles will have to make cuts before Friday night's opening game against the Rocky Mountain Rage.

The Eagles and Sundogs skated to a scoreless first period although each team had their chances. Colorado finished the period 0-6 on the power play while Arizona finished was 0-3. Arizona out shot the Eagles 9-8 in the period.

Torrie Wheat scored his third consecutive goal against the Eagles when he capitalized on a power play goal at the 15:48 mark of the period. After scoring the final two goals of the game Friday night Wheat scored his fourth in two games against Colorado to unlock the scoreless tie. After two periods the Eagles were out shooting the Sundogs 25-21 but were 0-8 on the power play, and losing 1-0.

Arizona took a 2-0 lead in the third period when Brent Kelly scored on a Cory Stillman pass at the 9:42 mark. The Eagles weren't finished and stormed back on a short-handed goal by Sean Robertson when he banged in rebound, Ryan Tobler assisted on the play. Tobler tied the game with only 30 seconds remaining and scored the Eagles first and only power play goal of the game. The goal was a six-on-four goal as the Eagles also had the goaltender pulled from the net.

For the second straight night, the Eagles and Sundogs needed overtime to decide the outcome, and for the second straight night, Arizona came out on top. Brent Kelly scored his second goal of the game just off a face-off in the Eagles zone and sent the home team to the locker room with another loss.

The game was again full of penalties with a total of 39 called and 120 total minutes. Colorado finished 1-15 on the power play and killed 11 of 12 penalties. Jomar Cruz stopped all 16 shots he faced in the first half of the game for the Eagles and Jordan Ramstead stopped 20 of 23 in the second half of the game for Colorado. Chris King stopped 38 of 40 shots for Arizona in the win.
