
Sundogs Open Pre-Season with 5-4 Overtime Victory

LOVELAND, Colo. - In CHL pre-season action, the Arizona Sundogs Professional Hockey Club played its first-ever game Friday evening, coming out on top in a 5-4 overtime victory against the Northwest Division Colorado Eagles, despite being out shot 44-37. Forward Cory Stillman finished with two goals while teammate Torrie Wheat opened Sundogs play with a hat trick.
Colorado's Konrad Reeder opened the scoring on a power play two minutes into the first period. Less than seven minutes later, Cory Stillman scored the first goal in Arizona Sundogs history, putting one past Colorado's Siwiec. Defenseman Max Bull and forward Brent Kelly assisted on the play.
In a penalty-filled second period, Arizona's Torrie Wheat opened the scoring at 8:45 on a goal from line mate Jordan Mowbray. Later in the period, Stillman notched a power play goal, his second of the night from Lardner and Cetta.
Still on a power play from the previous period, Colorado's Pankewicz scored just 38 seconds into the third, cutting the Sundogs' lead to one. Just five minutes later, Pankewicz scored again to tie the game at three. Colorado forward Riley Nelson added a goal at 9:39 of the third to put Colorado ahead 4-3. Arizona would respond on the power play as Torrie Wheat scored his second goal of the game from Michael Vernace and Chris Bartolone with only 1:36 left in the game.
With the score tied at four apiece, the two teams went to overtime. Only 1:44 into the extra frame, Wheat scored again, this time on a rebound.
The Sundogs' Kris Mayotte appeared in net, stopping 40 of 44 shots. Arizona finished 2 of 14 on the power play.
