Sundogs Win Second Overtime Game in as Many Days

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Arizona Sundogs won their second overtime game in as many days against the Colorado Eagles with Brent Kelly scoring his second goal of the night at 3:09 of the extra frame. Torrie Wheat also scored to help the Sundogs to a 3-2 win.

In a scoreless first period, Arizona totaled eight shots on net, going 0-3 on the power play. Arizona's Chris King stopped all nine shots faced, keeping Colorado off the scoreboard. Colorado was unable to convert on the man advantage, going 0-6 on the power play.

The second period saw a goalie change for Colorado at the 10:40 mark with Colorado's Jomar Cruz replacing teammate Jordan Ramstead. Arizona's Torrie Wheat took advantage of the goalie substitution, scoring his fourth goal in two nights, breaking the scoreless tie at 15:48 of the second on a goal from forward Brent Kelly and defenseman Michael Vernace.

Physical play picked up in the third with both teams collecting penalties for fighting. At 10:18 of the period, Arizona increased their lead to two on a goal from Brent Kelly, assisted by Stillman. Less than two minutes later, Colorado's Sean Robertson put a shot past King to cut Arizona's lead back to one. With less a minute left in regulation, Colorado pulled its netminder allowing for an extra offensive skater. At 19:30, Colorado's Ryan Tobler took advantage, putting a rebound past King to tie the game at two apiece.

Arizona started the extra period a man down but got back to even-strength. Physical play continued as Arizona's Chris Nichols and Colorado's Tanner Schultz faced off for their respective clubs. With less than two minutes left in OT, Kelly put a shot past Colorado's Ramstead.

The Sundogs' King stopped 38 of 40 shots faced in the contest. Arizona finished 1 of 12 on the power play. For the second game in a row, the two teams collected numerous penalties, combining for 39 penalties and 120 minutes.
