Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 overtime win against the defending Western Conference champion Las Vegas Wranglers. Jack Combs scored just 22 seconds into the extra session with a highlight reel goal that gave goaltender Kyle Jones his 68th win with the Eagles, tying Andrew Penner for the team's all-time record. The teams will meet again Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center.

The first period's lone goal came when Sean Wiles put home a rebound on the first of Las Vegas' two power plays in the period. The goal came on the 12th of their 15 unanswered shots after the Eagles had a 3-0 lead in shots after the game's first few minutes. The Wranglers out-shot the Eagles 15-4 in the frame.

Although the Eagles won the shot battle in the second stanza (11-7), it was again the Wranglers that scored the only goal -- again on a power play. Jeff Godfrey's shot from the right point was deflected in the low slot and just slipped past Jones. It marked the 5th special teams goal in a row for Las Vegas (four on the power play).

Colorado's offense finally woke up in the third period, scoring a pair of goals to tie the game and help force overtime. Their first tally came at 6:41 when Combs battled for the biscuit behind the Wranglers' net before finding defenseman Jake Marto crashing down the slot for a one-timer past Joe Fallon. At 9:19, Colorado's power play finally came to life as well when Kyle Ostrow dug a pass out of his skates in the left circle and sent another puck past Fallon to knot the game up at 2.

The Eagles ended the overtime session with their first shot on one of the best goals of the season. Combs powered his way up the right wing wall from deep in the offensive zone, circled to the high slot -- fighting off a defender the whole way -- then slipped the puck between his legs and spun 180 degrees to shed the defender before stickhandling toward the crease and scoring his league-high-tying 17th goal of the season.
