NOTES FROM THE GAME
- Cole Burbidge's power play goal in overtime lifted the Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Saturday evening in Boisbriand.
- The only other goal scoring came in the second period, with Cam MacDonald opening the scoring on the power play for the Eagles, countered by the Armada's Xavier Sarrasin.
- Nicolas Ruccia picked up the win in goal, stopping 30 of 31, while Edouard Gauthier took the loss stopping 33 of 35.
Blainville-Boisbriand's Alexis Bourque thought he'd opened the scoring on a first period power play, but the goal was waived off. The Armada outshot the Eagles 11-7 but neither team could find the back of the net.
The breakthrough came past the halfway mark of regulation when Tomas Lavoie sent a heavy shot on the power play towards the Armada goal, and it was tipped by Cam MacDonald by Blainville-Boisbriand goalkeeper Edouard Gauthier. Less than two minutes later, the Armada neutralized as Sarrasin pushed a rebound by Ruccia to tie the score.
After outshooting the Armada in the second period, the Eagles would again in another fast paced period but neither could find a go ahead goal. The Eagles were given a big opportunity in overtime when an errant line change by Blainville-Boisbrand led to a too many men on the ice penalty.
The Armada were able to fend off the Eagles for the first half of the penalty, but couldn't stop a rising shot from Burbidge going over the shoulder of Gauthier to finish the game in the extra session.
The Eagles now return home for a Thursday night match up against the Shebrooke Phoenix on November 2nd. It's $13 Thursday at the Nest as adult tickets can be purchased for $13.
