WEST VALLEY CITY, UT. - Colorado scored three goals in the third period, including a pair of shorthanded tallies, to defeat the Utah Grizzlies 5-3 on Monday. Eagles forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel posted four assists in the win, while defenseman Matt Register notched a pair of power-play goals. Colorado finished the night going 3-for-7 on the power play, while holding the Grizzlies 1-for-5 on the man-advantage.

Utah jumped out to an early lead in the contest when forward Cam Reid fired a wrister from the top of the left circle that beat Eagles goalie Clarke Saunders and put the Grizzlies on top 1-0 just 1:42 into the contest.

Penalty trouble would prove costly for Utah later in the period, as Register would blast home a slap shot from the high slot on a 5-on-3 power play to knot the game at 1-1 at the 12:50 mark of the opening frame. Just over one minute later and with Colorado back on a 5-on-3 power play, Register would light the lamp with another slap shot from between the circles to give the Eagles the 2-1 edge.

Utah would erase the deficit on a power play early in the second period when forward Michael Pelech stuffed home a rebound in the crease to knot the game at 2-2 just 24 seconds into the middle frame.

The Grizzlies would reclaim the lead when Pelech again snagged a loose puck off a rebound and fired it past Saunders to put Utah on top 3-2 at the 10:22 mark of the second period.

The Eagles came storming back in the third period, as forward Matt Garbowsky would lead a 2-on-1 shorthanded rush down the ice, finishing the effort with a wrist shot from the right circle that would beat Grizzlies goaltender Ryan Faragher to tie the game at 3-3 just 3:03 into the final frame. The goal now gives Colorado a shorthanded tally in three straight contests.

Forward Jackson Houck would give Colorado its third power-play goal of the night and its second lead of the game when he smacked in a loose puck in the crease into the back of the net to make it a 4-3 Colorado edge with 9:25 remaining in the contest.

Utah would pull Faragher late in the contest in favor of the extra attacker, but Eagles forward Cam Maclise would extend his goal-scoring streak to four straight games with an empty-netter with just 38 seconds left in regulation. Saunders picked up his 28th win of the season in net, stopping 28 of Utah's 31 shots on goal. Faragher was saddled with the loss, allowing four goals on 32 shots.

The Eagles now return home to face the Rapid City Rush on Wednesday, March 22nd at 7:15pm MT at the Budweiser Events Center.

Season tickets for the 2017-18 season can now be reserved with a $50 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468). A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
