
Eagles Bounce Back with 4-2 Win over Mudbugs

BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Colorado Eagles, backed by the goaltending of Tim Boron, beat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday night 4-2 at the CenturyTel Center. Boron saved 39 of 41 shots for his fifth straight victory in net, and Riley Nelson scored his 200th professional goal as the Eagles improved their record to 27-5-0. The Eagles are off to the best start in league history at the halfway point of the season with 54 points in just 32 games. The game was the last one for both Colorado and Bossier-Shreveport before the All-Star Game that will be held at the same building. The Eagles next game will be on Friday, January 19th against Arizona Sundogs at the Budweiser Events Center.
In a penalty filled first period, the Eagles and Mudbugs skated to a 1-1 tie. A total of 16 penalties were called in the first period and at one point there were five players in the penalty box for Colorado. Riley Nelson scored his 200th professional goal on the power play just 1:24 into the period. Bossier-Shreveport answered with just 36 seconds remaining in the period on a five-on-three goal by Forbes MacPherson. After one period, the Mudbugs out shot the Eagles 14-6 as the Eagles were forced kill eight penalties in the first period.
Ed McGrane gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead on a goal at the 14:36 mark of the second period on assists from Scott Polaski and Ryan Tobler. Less than two minutes later, Riley Nelson tipped a Les Borsheim shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the game. Colorado out shot the Mudbugs 9-8 in the second period and had a two-goal lead going into the third.
The Mudbugs fought back and made it a one-goal game when Daniel Pegoraro scored at the 7:56 mark of the final period. He was assisted by former Eagles' player Karlis Zirnis and Joe Ori. Bossier continued to pour shots on Eagles goaltender Tim Boron, but he was up to the task making save after save. Finally, at the 13:47 mark Ryan Tobler got a piece of an Aaron Schneekloth shot for the Eagles fourth goal of the game, a power play goal. The Mudbugs out shot Colorado 41-21 in the game, but only converted on one of their 13 power play chances, while the Eagles finished 2-9 on the power play. Final score: Eagles 4 - Mudbugs 2.
