Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO. - Ryan Olsen and Gabriel Verpaelst each netted goals in a shootout, while Colorado goaltender Lukas Hafner turned aside three of four Tulsa shooters, as the Eagles defeated the Oilers 4-3 on Wednesday. Colorado forwards Jesse Mychan and Matt Garbowsky each notched a point in their return, after the duo missed the previous 16 games with injury.

Tulsa grabbed an early lead when forward Joey Sides knocked home a one-timer from the side of the net to put the Oilers on top 1-0 at the 7:06 mark of the first period.

Colorado would strike back 90 seconds later when Olsen backhanded a rebound in the low slot past Tulsa goaltender Devin Williams to tie the game at 1-1. The tally was Olsen's fifth goal in his first seven games as an Eagle and extended his point streak to six consecutive contests. Colorado would then stake its first lead of the night when Garbowsky wired a wrister from the right circle that would light the lamp and put Colorado on top 2-1 with 5:50 left to play in the opening frame.

Tulsa would put the brakes on the Eagles back-to-back goals just 1:35 later when Oilers forward Adam Pleskach snatched a rebound on top of the crease and fed the puck past Hafner to make it a 2-2 game after 20 minutes of action.

Heading into the second period Tulsa would reclaim the advantage when forward Charlie Sampair weaved his way through the slot before burying a wrist shot to put the Oilers back in the lead 3-2 with 6:05 gone in the middle frame.

The Eagles would generate a goal of their own just minutes later when forward Michael Joly snapped a shot from the top of the right circle past Williams to level the game at 3-3 with 10:20 remaining in the period. The goal was Joly's league-leading 37th goal of the season.

Colorado and Tulsa would each create opportunities in the third period, but neither team would be able to generate a goal in the final period of regulation. Heading into a sudden-death overtime, each team would muster three shots on net, but Williams and Hafner would hold strong, forcing a shootout to decide the winner.

Sampair would light the lamp in the shootout for the Oilers, while Olsen and Verpaelst each potted goals for the Eagles, as Colorado claimed a 4-3 victory.

The Eagles held Tulsa 0-for-6 on the power play and outshot the Oilers 33-24 in the contest.

The Eagles return to action when they take on the Tulsa Oilers at the Budweiser Events Center on Friday, March 2nd at 7:05pm MT.
