Colorado Eagles Announce 2018 "Pot of Gold" Recipient

March 1, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, CO. - Over the past seven years the Colorado Eagles have hosted the "Pot of Gold" Night, raising over $250,000 for families faced with the financial hardships that come with caring for a sick child. This year's recipient of the "Pot of Gold Fundraiser" is 12-year-old Malaki Turner of Longmont, CO.

At birth, Malaki was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a relentless genetic disorder that causes damage to the lungs and other organs of the body. In addition to Cystic Fibrosis, Malaki suffers from diabetes, as well as an adrenal deficiency that complicates his health further. After ending up in the ICU, Malaki's family learned he was in a fight for his life. He had contracted an infection caused by aspergillus, an airborne fungus, and fell into septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome. After being placed on full life support, Malaki was able to pull through, but every day presents new challenges.

Due to the constant stresses and financial burdens of raising a sick child, Malaki's family is currently in the process of selling their home and moving to Greeley to live with family at the end of this school year. This season, the Eagles want to raise money to provide Malaki and his family with a partial relief from the non-stop medical bills and other financial burdens the hospital brings forth.

The Eagles players will wear a specially designed Irish-themed jersey with a Lucky Joe's logo patch on one shoulder in recognition of local support and a shamrock on the alternate shoulder with the initials of the previous six recipients of the Pot of Gold. Fans have the opportunity to get involved through a silent auction for the jerseys worn by the players during the game. The silent action will be held at the game on Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the Water Valley Tap behind section L and conclude at the end of the 2nd intermission. In addition to the silent auction, donations will be collected with the help of Larimer and Weld County Sheriff's office during the game.

Subaru of Loveland has jumped on board to help raise funds at this game and will donate a portion of all new Subaru vehicles sold between now and March 17, 2018. In addition, Subaru of Loveland will make an additional donation during the game for all Chuck-A-Pucks that land in the sunroof of the Subaru on the ice during the Chuck-A-Puck promotion.

In addition to the fundraising efforts at this game, fans can look forward to the following promotions during this entertaining Irish-themed game night:

o Large Green Budweiser Drafts for $3.50

o Irish-themed music and videos throughout the game

o A pregame and intermission step-dancing performance by the McTeggart School of Irish Dance

o Pot of Gold Jersey Auction in the Water Valley Tap

o Live bagpipe performance

o Special St. Patrick's Day Eagles themed t-shirts and hats
