FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Houston Dynamo FC closed a two-game road trip with a 3-0 loss to the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium this evening.
New England took the lead in the 42nd minute off a cross from Brandon Bye. The low cross was played across the heart of the box by forward Bobby Wood to an oncoming Dylan Borrero for the opening goal of the game.
The Revolution doubled their lead in the 53rd minute after Carles Gil found DeJuan Jones outside the box. Jones' cross found Wood at the far post for his first goal of the season. New England scored again in the 65th minute after the Dynamo backline attempted to clear a cross that fell to Bye inside the box.
Dynamo captain Héctor Herrera forced a save in the opening minutes of the game. Houston would force a second save in the eighth minute off a cross from defender Tate Schmitt. The 25-year-old found Ivan Franco inside the box, but his header was handled by New England goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. Schmitt and Franco were two of four players to make their Dynamo debut last week in Cincinnati.
The Dynamo earned their first free kick of the game in the 11th minute following a foul on midfielder Coco Carrasquilla. Herrera's cross into the box was dangerous but the danger was quelled by an offside call.
Herrera's cross in the 33rd minute ultimately found Franco inside the box, but he lost his footing after controlling the ball on the second bounce. Houston forced a save two minutes later following an individual effort from defender Griffin Dorsey. The 23-year-old dribbled toward the heart of the box to create space for a shot, similar to his long-range effort against LAFC on Aug. 31, 2022, but the ball was saved by the New England shot stopper. Dorsey is one of six players to take the field today below the age of 25 for the Dynamo.
Houston's final opportunity of the first half came off the left foot of Herrera after he controlled a ball initially cleared by the Revolution backline. The Dynamo captain just missed the top corner of the near post.
Houston will unveil the newly renovated Shell Energy Stadium in March when they host their home opener on March 18. For tickets and additional information, visit HoustonDynamoFC.com.
