August 30, 2009 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Boise Hawks News Release
PASCO, Wash. - The Tri-City Dust Devils captured the 2009 Northwest League East Division pennant tonight with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over the Boise Hawks, before 3,526 fans at Gesa Stadium.
Tri-City and Salem-Keizer, which claimed the West Division crown tonight with a 4-3 win at Everett, will meet in a rematch of the 2007 NWL Championship Series, while S-K won in four games.
The Hawks took advantage of a throwing error in the first inning to plate an unearned run, but it was all starter Josh Hungerman would allow in five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven.
The Dust Devils would tie the score in the fourth on a Orlando Sandoval RBI single, then win it in the seventh on a two-run Jeremiah Sammy single, aided by a pair of errors in the inning.
Hak-Ju Lee extended his hitting streak to ten in the loss, a season-long sixth in a row for Boise, who falls to 0-7 this season against Tri-City.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow, with Trey McNutt meeting Dan Perkins at 8:15 p.m. (MST)
NOTES - The Hawks added five players from the Mesa Cubs prior to tonight's game - third-round pick Austin Kirk (LHP), sixth-round pick Brooks Raley (LHP), 26th Round Pick Steve Grife (RHP), along with speedy outfielder Francisco Guzman and rehabbing pitcher Dae-Eun Rhee.
