Yakima Bears News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - Starter Chris Odegaard and the Bears bullpen combined to allow just two hits as Yakima (25-44) edged the Spokane Indians (34-35) 3-2 to clinch its first home series win in August in front of 1,886 fans at County Stadium Sunday evening.

The Bears overcame an early deficit with three runs in the bottom of the third inning on five hits to take a 3-1 lead that they would not relinquish. The bizarre frame featured a catcher's interference call and a Matt Davidson batted ball that struck base runner Brent Greer.

Odegaard (2-7) worked six innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four and walking three to earn the victory. Ben Henry (2-4) took the loss, giving up three runs - two earned - on seven hits in four innings. Alex Thieroff pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.

Rafael Quezada tossed two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, striking out four while walking two.

The Bears strung together eight hits but nobody had a multi-hit night.

With the win Yakima has now clinched its first home series victory in the month of August.

The two teams will be back at it Monday night at 7:05 for the series finale on Fan Appreciation Night. Dan Taylor (4-1, 3.76 ERA) gets the nod for Yakima against Trevor Hurley (6-2, 3.28 ERA) for Spokane.

All 76 games can be heard on KUTI 1460 AM and are also available streaming via the internet at www.yakimabears.com.

Yakima Bears single-game tickets, season tickets and seven new mini plans are on sale now at the new downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
