
Dust Devils Edge AquaSox in 3-1 Loss

EVERETT, Wash.- After the Everett AquaSox (21-14) and Tri-City Dust Devils (23-12) combined for 26 runs in the first two games of the series, they were locked in a pitcher's duel on Saturday night. Both teams were held hitless until the top of the fourth as the Dust Devils edged the AquaSox 3-1.
The AquaSox finally broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh when Anthony Phillips led off with a single. With two outs, Mario Martinez added a clutch single up the middle to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead.
The Dust Devils offense finally woke up in the top half the eighth. Leonardo Reyes led off with a single and went to second on a Jose Gonzalez sacrifice bunt. Alex Fienberg drove Reyes in with a single to tie the game. Feinberg would come around to score on a Ben Paulsen single to give the Dust Devils a 2-1 lead.
Tri-City tacked on another run in the top of the ninth when Kevin Clark scored on a Tim Wheeler sacrifice fly.
The AquaSox bats fell silent in the bottom of the ninth as Rhett Ballard (W, 4-1) finished off a 3-1 Tri-City victory.
Taylor Stanton received a no-decision in an outstanding effort. He went 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out eight and walking two.
The AquaSox and Dust Devils will return Sunday afternoon for game four of the five-game series. Andres Esquibel (0-1, 7.15) will get the start for the AquaSox. Esquibel will be opposed by Sheng-An Kuo (1-0, 5.04). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
