Yakima Bears News Release
KEIZER, Ore. - Orlando Yntema (ENT-im-uh) twirled a three-hit shutout as the Salem Keizer Volcanoes (26-10) defeated the Yakima Bears (13-23) 10-0 at Volcanoes Stadium Sunday evening. Yntema (4-0) needed just 88 pitches to go the distance, retiring the final 15 Bears hitters he faced, for the first complete game shutout by a Volcanoes pitcher in the franchise's 13-year history. The right hander struck out seven, walked zero, and faced just two hitters over the minimum in the victory.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Roberto Rodriguez robbed Caleb Curry of an extra-base hit by making a sprinting, over-the-shoulder catch on the warning track in straightaway center field. Brent Greer, Matt Davidson and Gerson Montilla accounted for Yakima's three hits.
Juan Martinez led Salem-Keizer offensively, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
With the loss, Yakima's road record drops to 3-15. The two teams will meet again Monday night at 6:35 for the finale of the five-game series. Ricardo Taveras will have his start skipped (shoulder), with Ben Dollar (0-1, 3.65) instead getting the nod for Yakima against Jorge Bucardo (3-0, 2.41 ERA) for Salem-Keizer. All 76 games can be heard on KUTI 1460 AM and are also available streaming via the internet at www.yakimabears.com.
Yakima Bears single-game tickets, season tickets and seven new mini plans are on sale now at the new downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
