St. George RoadRunners News Release
ST. GEORGE, UTAH - A night after blowing a 6-2 lead over the final four frames, the Orange County Flyers took no chances offensively hanging a seven spot in the seventh inning in Saturday's 13-2 blowout of the St. George RoadRunners.
Matt Durkin (4-2) was effectively wild in his six innings - two earned runs on three hits while walking seven. Relievers Mike Koons and Kevin Altman kept the RoadRunners scoreless over the final three frames.
Raymar Diaz was dealt his first defeat of 2009 scattering six runs in eight hits, including two home runs, in five innings. Justin Abbott and Monte Mansfield pitched well out of the pen, but the Flyers exploded for seven tallies off former Major Leaguer Eude Brito. The southpaw allowed all of the runs earned in the seventh after retiring the side in order just an inning earlier.
Flyer shortstop Damien Jackson led the club with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Nick Guerra (4) and Julian Benavidez (6) each homered.
St. George was held to four hits. Jose Rodriguez tallied the lone RBI with a single in the fifth.
The series rubber match is Sunday night from Bruce Hurst Field. St. George will start RHP David Seccombe (4-2) while the Flyers counter with RHP Manny Ayala (0-1). First pitch is at 7:05pm.
