Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - Aaron Hornostaj kicked off the Friday Night Fireworks by launching the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the ninth over the right field wall for a walk-off two run home run to beat the Victoria Seals 8-6. Minutes later the crowd was treated to the rest of the fireworks display over the left field wall.
Mike Johnson started the game on the mound for the Capitals but only lasted four innings as the Seals got to the right-hander for six runs in his first start as a Capital. Aaron Easton and P.J. Bevis, also making his first appearance as a Capital, combined for five shutout innings to finish the game. Bevis (1-0, 0.00 ERA) picked up his first win with the Caps.
The game was back-and-forth early with the Capitals leading 4-3 after four innings. The Seals surged ahead in the fifth with three runs. Seals outfielder Chris Van Rossum had a two-run double in the inning. The Caps had to wait until the eighth inning to pull even with two runs on back-to-back clutch hits from Marcus Nettles and Jorge Cortes. That set the stage for Hornostaj's ninth inning heroics.
The Capitals continue their series with Victoria tonight at 7:00pm at TELUS Field. A festive atmosphere will take over the ballpark during Christmas in July Night. Fans are encouraged to bring a toy donation and have their picture taken with Santa and his reindeer. On Sunday dog owners will have a chance to take in a game with their canine pet for Bark in the Park. A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Edmonton Humane Society.
Tickets for all Capitals home games are available at the Capitals Box Office, any TicketMaster location, by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625) or by visiting CapsBaseball.ca.
