
Durham Demolishes Syracuse 15-4

Durham, N.C. - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, were defeated 15-4 by the Durham Bulls on Monday night. Syracuse starter Jason Jones pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed ten earned runs in the first inning. The Chiefs got home runs from both Seth Bynum and Jason Botts in the loss.
Durham (62-40) scored ten runs in the first inning off of Syracuse starter Jason Jones. He faced 13 batters and allowed ten earned runs surrendering run scoring hits to Joe Dillon, Omar Luna, Justin Ruggiano and a three-run home run to Dan Johnson. Jones departed to make way for Dan Leatherman. The new Chiefs pitcher allowed an RBI single to Chris Richard to make it 10-0 after one inning.
Syracuse (54-49) did retaliate in the second inning with a solo home run from Seth Bynum to make it 10-1. However the Bulls scored again in the second on a single from Dillon to push the lead to 11-1. Two run home runs from Dillon and Fernando Perez in the seventh and eighth gave Durham fifteen runs on the ballgame.
Jason Botts hit a three run home run in the eighth to give the Chiefs their final tally of four runs.
Virgil Vasquez picked up the victory for Durham tossing seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and walking two while striking out two.
On Tuesday the Chiefs return home for a four-game set with the Indianapolis Indians. The scheduled starter for Syracuse is Major League rehabber Scott Olsen who has made one start with the Chiefs earlier this season and did not receive a decision. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
