Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Rochester Red Wings and Minnesota Twins today announced a two-year extension of their working relationship through the 2012 season. A joint announcement was made by Twins Senior Director of Minor Leagues Jim Rantz and Red Wings President/CEO Naomi Silver.
The existing Red Wings-Twins Player Development Contract expires at the end of this season. "We have enjoyed an outstanding relationship with the Minnesota Twins over these last eight years since affiliating with them in 2003. While we have been somewhat disappointed in our win-loss record this year, we've been in this business long enough to understand that this type of season does happen occasionally,"Â said Red Wings President/ CEO Naomi Silver.
"Injuries and call ups to Minnesota have played a big role in our troubles this season. The Twins have been providing us with quality players who have the ability to help Minnesota when called up. That says a lot for their organization, and the value they put on having a solid Minor League system. The Twins are an organization which believes in developing players through an excellent farm system, and normally that bodes well for the Triple-A team,"Â added Silver.
Among the current Twins that have played for the Red Wings are: RHP Scott Baker, RHP Nick Blackburn, RHP Jesse Crain, outfielder Michael Cuddyer, outfielder Jason Kubel, LHP Francisco Liriano, catcher Jose Morales, first baseman Justin Morneau, outfielder Jason Repko, RHP Kevin Slowey, and outfielder Denard Span.
"On behalf of the Minnesota Twins organization we are pleased to add this two-year extension to our current working agreement. We couldn't be happier with our affiliation with Rochester and hope that this extension will be one of many in a long affiliation with the Rochester Red Wings,"Â said Twins Senior Director of Minor Leagues Jim Rantz.
Since Minnesota arrived in Rochester in 2003, the Twins have consistently turned to the Red Wings for help. Overall, 94 different players have worn both the Rochester and Minnesota uniform.
"The Twins have assured us that they will work hard towards giving us the right mix of players we need to be competitive. In speaking with General Manager Dan Mason, Chairman Gary Larder, and our entire board of directors, which is very representative of our fans, we decided that, given what Minnesota has told us in extensive meetings and their overall philosophy, we have confidence that they will do what is necessary to improve our position over the off- season,"Â added Silver.
"Special thanks to Naomi Silver, Gary Larder, Dan Mason and the entire Red Wings front office staff for their tireless efforts to run a first class operation that includes great care and attention for our players and staff,"Â added Rantz.
