Wichita Thunder News Release
Independence, MO- Vincent Dunn scored two minutes into overtime and helped Wichita get past Missouri by the final of 2-1 on Tuesday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
Ian Lowe scored the lone goal for the Thunder in regulation and Drew Owsley stopped 47 shots in the winning effort.
Both teams found the net in the first 20 minutes. Lowe recorded his eighth of the season at 3:55. He stole the puck near the Thunder line, skated down on a shorthanded breakaway and beat Josh Robinson with a wrist shot to the glove side that hit the bar and went in. Conner Bleackley tied the game at one at 14:07 as he skated through center, got around a Thunder defenseman near the net and beat Drew Owsley.
Owsley and Robinson took over in the final 40 minutes, stopping a combined 77 shots on net. For the third game in a row, Wichita and Missouri headed into overtime.
In the extra session, Owsley made a tough save on Zach Tolkinen as he had a semi-breakaway just over a minute in. Dunn scored at 1:41 when his shot from the top of the left circle was blocked, re-gathered near the net and slipped a backhand past Robinson for the game-winner.
Wichita claimed its first win over Missouri past regulation. Lowe notched his 83rd goal in a Thunder uniform, which is the 12th shorthanded goal scored by the Thunder this season. Owsley grabs the victory stopping 47 of 48 shots. Robinson suffers the overtime loss, stopping 34 of 36 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-3 on the power play. Missouri was 0-for-5 on the man advantage.
