Jacksonville, Fla. - Suns first baseman Cory Dunlap hit an opposite field, two-run homerun through the ninth inning rain leading the Jacksonville Suns to a 3-1 Thursday night victory over the Carolina Mudcats.

With the win the Suns snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 22-19 overall while Carolina fell to 16-25.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the fourth inning against Carolina starter Daniel Barone when Marshall McDougall hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Chin-Lung Hu.

On the other side Jacksonville starter Justin Orenduff pitched five shutout innings with two walks and eight strikeouts, in his longest outing since surgery near the end of 2006.

Carolina tied the game in the sixth inning off of reliever Brian Akin when Brian McCann hit a two-out, opposite field homerun into the front row of the bleachers to make it a 1-1 deadlock.

The Mudcats had chances to score late, but could not come through. In the eighth inning Luis Gonzalez entered the game out of the bullpen with men on first and second with no outs and calmly put the next three batters down in order. In the ninth inning, Carolina had the bases loaded with two out and the number three batter in the order Chase Lambin struck out against Gonzalez.

Jacksonville's Chin-Lung Hu led off the ninth inning with an opposite field double against reliever Blake McGinley. Xavier Paul next sacrificed Hu to third base for Cory Dunlap. The big first baseman then connected on an opposite field homerun, his third homerun of the season, to give Jacksonville a 3-1 victory.

Luis Gonzalez (1-0) picked up the relief win while Blake McGinley (0-3) fell in the relief loss.
