
Dunedin Edges Miracle, 4-2, to Even Series

DUNEDIN, Fla. (May 21, 2014) - The Dunedin Blue Jays scored three runs in the sixth inning en route to a 4-2 win over the Fort Myers Miracle on Wednesday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.
The Miracle scored a run in the first inning after some shaky play by the Blue Jays. Travis Harrison extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a two-out single off Dunedin starter Daniel Norris. Harrison advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then, Dalton Hicks hit a grounder to the right side. Moving to his left Jorge Flores watched ball bounce by his glove and Harrison raced around third to score, 1-0.
Dunedin tied the game in the second inning. With one out, Derrick Chung singled into center field off Miracle starter David Hurlbut. Then, on an 0-1 pitch, Christian Lopes doubled off the wall in left to bring in Chung, 1-1.
Dalton Pompey broke the tie in the sixth inning with a long solo homer to lead off the inning against Hurlbut (3-2). The long ball was Pompey's second of the series and fifth of the season. The Blue Jays followed with a Dwight Smith, Jr. base hit through the right side. Marcus Knecht then barreled a 2-1 pitch into right center field to score Smith. Aderling Mejia's throw home was cut-off by Hicks. Appearing to have Knecht hung up going to third, Hicks throw was wide of Niko Goodrum at third and ricocheted down the right field error. Knecht trotted home on the error and gave
Norris left the game after the fifth inning and received a no decision. Norris allowed one unearned run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Reliever Chad Girodo entered in the sixth and pitch a pair of perfect innings, before giving up a lead-off double to Mejia in the eighth. A Jorge Polanco bouncer to second moved Mejia to third. Harrison was then struck out by Girodo, but the ball got away from catcher Derrick Chung and Mejia scored on the wild pitch. Efrain Nieves was brought in by the Blue Jays and recorded the final two outs of the eighth.
In the ninth, the Miracle got a pair of hits off closer Arik Sikula, but the Blue Jays right-hander struck out two in a scoreless frame to record his FSL leading 13th save.
Hurlbut went six innings and allowed four runs on six hits. Tim Shibuya and Brandon Peterson each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
