Mississippi RiverKings News Release
The Mississippi RiverKings did not play today, but Louis Dumont still inched his way closer to the 1,000-point mark.
Dumont today received credit for a secondary assist on Ryan Held's first-period goal from Friday's game against the Colorado Eagles. The assist gave Dumont 999 points over his 14-year pro career.
"Right after practice started today, trainer Rick Hanlon asked me to come down to the ice," said RiverKings Director of Media Relations/Broadcasting Nikolai Busko. "Rick wanted to get things squared away with Louis so that he could have a better chance of reaching the milestone at home tomorrow instead of on the road this weekend."
Among other duties, the Central Hockey League's media relations personnel handle statistical changes for their respective teams.
"We have to E-mail all statistical changes to the league no later than three days after a game," Busko said. "We're all glad we caught this one before tomorrow's game."
The assist on the goal initially went to Rick Kozak. Busko said Dumont and Kozak occasionally confuse official scorers and other off-ice officials on scoring plays.
"Dumont wears 16, and Kozak wears 61," he said. "On top of that, they play on the same line. So when you have them both in front of the net, it's not always easy for the off-ice officials to figure out who put the biscuit in the basket or who helped get it in there."
Dumont's pro hockey career began after he won the Memorial Cup with the Western Hockey League's Kamloops Blazers in 1994. Before joining the RiverKings last season, he played for professional teams in the following localities: Tallahassee, Fla.; Wheeling, W. Va.; Syracuse, N.Y.; Lafayette, La.; Winnipeg, Man.; Ayr, Scotland; Augusta, Ga.; Lowell, Mass.; Pensacola, Fla.; Biloxi, Miss.; and West Valley City, Utah.
Dumont had his best season statistically in 2001-2002 with the ECHL's Pensacola Ice Pilots. In 72 games, he scored 32 goals, assisted on 70 others for 102 points, and ammassed 139 penalty minutes. In 913 professional games, the 35-year-old Dumont has 360 goals, 639 assists, and 1,126 penalty minutes. He stands as the ECHL's all-time leader in points with 891 and assists with 566, and has scored the second-most goals in that league's history with 325.
In 118 regular season games with the RiverKings going back to last season, Dumont has 34 goals, 67 assists, 101 points, and 136 minutes in penalties.
The RiverKings host the Oklahoma City Blazers tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center. For tickets, call (662) 342-1755 or log on to the Internet at www.riverkings.com.
