Oakley CHL Player/Goaltender Of The Week Announced

March 10, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release


The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending March 9th, 2008 are forward Alex Leavitt of the Arizona Sundogs and goaltender Jason Tapp of the Corpus Christi Rayz.

Leavitt wins the weekly award for the first time this season despite being the CHL's leading scorer with 103 points (33-70=103). In four games this past week, the Edmonton native recorded multiple points in each game totaling four goals with eight assists and a +8 plus/minus rating. His strong play has moved the Sundogs back into first place in the Southwest Division leading New Mexico and Odessa by three points. On Saturday night in the Sundogs 8-3 victory at Amarillo, Leavitt became the first CHL player to reach the 100-point mark with his four points (2-2=4). This year's CHL All-Star Game Most Valuable Player has recorded at least a point in 45 of his 51 games this season and is currently on a 10-game point streak (25 points).

Tapp wins the award for the second time this season capturing it previously on December 17th (for the week of December 10th-16th). This past week, he brought the Rayz back into the playoff picture with victories over Bossier-Shreveport and Odessa (two playoff bound teams).On Friday versus the Mudbugs, the Kelowna, British Columbia native made 37 saves in the 3-2 win. He followed that up on Saturday making 32 saves in the blowout win over Odessa. For the season, Tapp is 20-25-6 and is the runaway league leader with 3088:59 minutes played and 1702 saves. He also leads the league with seven shootout wins.

In recognition of their achievements, both Leavitt and Tapp will receive a special gift from Oakley.
