Four Bucks Finalists For CHL Awards

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League have four players named as finalists for individual awards, as announced by the league Monday.

Jeff Bes (MVP), Dustin Traylen (Most Outstanding Goaltender), Adam Rivet (Most Outstanding Defenseman), and Andrew Desjardins (Rookie of the Year) are among four other finalists in each of their respective categories.

Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communications Departments and selected media members to determine the recipients of the awards.

Joining Bes on the MVP ballot are former Buck and current Rage Captain Brent Cullaton, John DeCaro (Bossier-Shrevport), Alex Leavitt (Arizona), and Konrad Reeder (New Mexico).

Joining Traylen on the Most Outstanding goaltender ballot are DeCaro (won last year's award), Andy Franck (Youngstown), Scott Reid (Rocky Mountain), Alexandre Vincent (Odessa).

Joining Rivet as Most Outstanding Defenseman finalists are Chris Bartalone (Arizona), Mike Burgoyne (OKC), Vladimir Hartinger (New Mexico), Aaron Schneekloth (Colorado).

Besides Desjardins and Vincent (ODE), other Rookie of the Year candidates are Mark Kolanos (Arizona), Tyrel Lucas (Bossier-Shreveport), and David Nimmo (Amarillo).

As of Monday afternoon Bes is second in the league in scoring with 100 points (43-57=100), just three points behind Leavitt (33-70=103). In addition to his 100 points, Bes has a CHL-Best +42 plus/minus rating, 14 power-play goals (T-4th in CHL), and seven game-winning goals (T-5th). Bes has hit the century mark in points for the second time in his 16-year career. His 117 points in 2003-04 earned him both the CHL MVP, and scoring champion that season.

Traylen is near the top of the league in several different goaltending categories. This season Traylen has 23 wins (T-1st), a .919 save percentage (4th), and a 2.24 goals against average (3rd), to go along with three shutouts.

Rivet is considered one of the best all-around defensemen in the league. Rivet is fifth in the league in defensemen scoring (18-28=46), to go along with 18 goals (T-2nd in Defensemen), two short-handed goals (T-1st in Defensemen), four short-handed assists (T-1st in Defensemen), and a +29 plus/minus rating (3rd in Defensemen).

Desjardins is second in the league in rookie scoring with 55 points (21-34=55), his 34 assists rank him third among rookies, while is +21 rating leads all rookies. Desjardins also has four power-play and game-winning goals to his credit. Additional awards to be determined include Coach of the Year, Equipment Manager of the Year and Athletic Trainer of the Year, as determined by their CHL peers, along with six member All-CHL and All-Rookie teams. The CHL's regular season point leader will receive the Joe Burton Scoring Champion award, while the CHL front office will determine the recipients of both the Man of the Year (for outstanding leadership and contributions to the community) and Rick Kozuback (perseverance, determination and commitment to hockey) awards based on nominations and supporting material from CHL member teams.

The Bucks held practice Monday, and will do the same Tuesday before flying to Youngstown Wednesday. Laredo will meet the Steelhounds in a three game series this Friday thru Sunday.
