Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- 10th-year Thunder veteran Jason Duda made another mark on the city of Wichita today, as he was announced as the winner of Dan Tooker in the Morning's Local Celebrity Survivor on 101.3 FM KFDI.
Today's announcement culminates a 17-week contest in which 16 local Wichita celebrities vied for the title by calling Dan Tooker's Morning Show periodically to smack talk their opponents and gain immunity. Every Thursday morning, listeners would call in and vote a different contestant off the island.
Over the week's Duda outlasted such famous Wichita celebrities as former NFL Star Barry Sanders, Actor Don Johnson, Actress Kirstie Alley, Country Singer Martina McBride and Rocker Joe Walsh. One of Duda's best ploys was to claim District Attorney Nola Foulston and Johnson were having an affair.
In the final round, Duda put himself over the top, responding to smack talk by KSN News Anchor Anita Cochran. Duda, who outwitted Cochran, KWCH News Anchor Roger Cornish and KWCH Reporter Kim Wilhelm in the end, proclaimed his love for CBS Survivor: Guatemala's latest winner Danni Boatwright, during his final appearance on Dan Tooker's Morning Show on Wednesday.
Boatwright, a native of Tonganoxie, KS, represented the state of Kansas in the 1992 Miss Teen USA Pageant as well as the 1996 Miss USA Pageant, where she was first runner-up to the title of Miss USA. The Thunder hopes to host Boatwright at an upcoming game during the New Year.
On the ice, the Thunder returns to action tonight for a 7:05 p.m. face-off at the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The Thunder will return home tomorrow night to host the Fort Worth Brahmas for their fourth annual Bank of the West Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are urged to bring a new teddy bear to the game and throw it on the ice when the Thunder scores their first goal. This season, all fans who bring a teddy bear to the game will get a coupon good for buy one get one free tickets to the Thunder home games on Tuesday, December 27th and Thursday, December 29th.
Over the last three seasons, the Thunder have collected over 1800 bears. The Thunder would like to break the single-game record of 714 teddy bears.
Tickets for all 18 remaining Thunder home games, ranging from $8 to $16 each, are on sale now. To order tickets, book your group outing or for more information, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
