
Ducks win, playoff spot clinched

(Central Islip, N.Y. Sept. 22, 2005) - Trailing 4-2 heading into the seventh, the Ducks faced what looked like a showdown in Nashua for a playoff slot. However, with the bases loaded and no outs on the board, Justin Davies registered the biggest hit of the season for the Ducks - a single to right - that knotted the score at four. Long Island continued to rally in the frame, adding two more runs to take a 6-4 lead that they would not relinquish.
With the win, Long Island clinched the Atlantic League's North Division second half title and will begin defense of their 2004 championship at Citibank Park against the Nashua Pride on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:05 p.m. the Ducks have four potential home playoff dates and tickets are on sale now at the Citibank Park box office, by visiting www.liducks.com, or by calling 1-888-332-5600.
Pedro Borbon, Jr. (3-3) picked up the win after fanning eight in eight innings of work while allowing three earned runs. Chris Zallie (4-7) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits without recording an out in the seventh. Offensively, the Ducks were led by Pete Rose, Jr., Henry Rodriguez, and Donny Leon who all finished the game with two hits. Carlos Hernandez added two runs scored on the night.
Duck Tales... Todd Erdos picked up his 32nd save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning ...With tonight's win, the Ducks finish the regular season with a 43-29 record at Citibank Park, and a 12-8 record versus the Lancaster Barnstormers... Donny Leon ends the regular season on a 20-game consecutive home games on base streak...Not only does tonight mark the night the Ducks clinch a playoff spot, but also the one-year anniversary of the first playoff win in franchise history, one year ago today versus Nashua... A total of 47 batters were struck out over the course of this three game series...Tonight's crowd of 5,561 raises the total to 2,634,394 fans who have enjoyed baseball at Citibank Park since April of 2000. The Ducks final, league-leading average attendance for the year is 6,131, once again averaging over 100% capacity.
