Camden Riversharks News Release
ATLANTIC CITY _ Ozzie Timmons clubbed a pair of three-run homers to lead the Atlantic City Surf to an 11-6 victory over the Camden Riversharks at Sandcastle Stadium Thursday night. Timmons now has 31 homers on the season and continues to be a team leader for Atlantic City, which is 45-22 in the second half and 77-60 overall.
"It helps when you get ahead in the count and that's what happened on both home runs,'' said Timmons, who now has 80 RBI for Atlantic City. "Even though we have wrapped up the second half we want to continue to win and carry momentum into the playoffs.''
Timmons first three-run shot came of Camden starter Brett Laxton, a 15-game winner, in the first. The Surf trailed 6-4 when Simmons delivered his second three-run shot in the sixth inning against Camden reliever and loser Todd Rizzo.
Mainland graduate Jason Law also contributed for Atlantic City as he went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Raul Marval had a 2-for-3 night and clubbed a solo homer, his sixth, in the sixth inning.
The victory went to Atlantic City's Greg Burke, a Duke graduate, and it was his first of the season. Surf starter Ryan Schurman got roughed up a bit by the Riversharks and gave up six runs and eight hits in six innings of work.
The Surf touched Laxton for six hits and four runs in six innings of work. The Surf and the Riversharks had battled hard for the entire second half but Atlantic City took the second-half flag by winning 16 of its last 21. Camden took the regular-season series 11 games to nine.
Atlantic City will finish the regular season with a three-game series against Bridgeport beginning tonight at the Sandcastle at 6:35 pm. The Surf will stage a pregame tribute to African-American ballplayers and former female Negro Leaguer Mamie "Peanuts'' Johnson will be in attendance.
