Ducks snap winless skid

SYRACUSE, NY - Jarrett Smith scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to lift the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the Syracuse Crunch Friday in the American Hockey League.

Travis Brigley scored a second-period shorthanded goal and added an assist for the Ducks, who halted a five-game winless streak (0-4-1-0). Brigley's goal, his 20th of the season, was Cincinnati's first shorthanded tally in 58 games.

Ilja Bryzgalov made 26 saves for the Ducks, who won for the sixth time in eight tries against the first-place Crunch this season (6-2-0-0). Bryzgalov, a second-round pick by Anaheim in 2000, surpassed Gregg Naumenko for most wins in one year by a Cincinnati rookie goaltender with his 18th victory of the season.

David Ling tallied the only goal for Syracuse, which is winless in its last four games (0-2-1-1).

Karl Goehring made 37 saves in the loss, as the Crunch were outshot 39-27.

The Ducks are 2-4-1-0 through the first seven games of a 10-game, 18-day road trip. They play at 7:00 p.m. in Lowell today.
