COLUMBUS RECALLS WESTCOTT

Syracuse, NY (March 15, 2002) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Duvie Westcott. The Crunch also announced that they have signed defenseman Alex Johnstone to a professional tryout contract.

Westcott, 24, has appeared in 61 games for the Crunch this season, recording 4 goals, 29 assists and 85 penalty minutes. He is sixth on the team in scoring with 33 points and second among AHL rookies with 29 assists. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Westcott was signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 7, 2001.

Westcott is expected to make his National Hockey League debut on Saturday night against the Calgary Flames.

Johnstone, 21, has appeared in a total of 48 East Coast Hockey League games this season with Columbus, Columbia and most recently New Orleans, recording two goals, one assist and 214 penalty minutes. A native of Halifax, NS, Johnstone was a teammate of former Crunch star Jody Shelley at Halifax (QMJHL) during the 1996-97 season.

The Crunch returns to action tonight against the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks for a 7:30 p.m. game. Tonight is Jody Shelley Bobble Head II, courtesy of BlueCross BlueShield of CNY. The first 1,000 children (12 and under) will receive a voucher for a bobble head that can be redeemed between periods and after the game.
