Somerset Patriots News Release
Central Islip, NY - The Long Island Ducks (11-8) blanked the Somerset Patriots (15-5) 1-0 Wednesday evening at Bethpage Ballpark. Long Island starting pitcher Jack Snodgrass was electric as he struck out 12 batters, while walking just one in six innings of work.
"I can't remember any mistakes he made," remarked Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie of Snodgrass's gem. "He was working the ball in and out. Using all quadrants of the plate. His changeup was effective. We knew from the beginning it was going to be one of those low scoring, tight games. Long Island was able to scrape across something and that was the difference."
The lone run occurred in the bottom of the second inning when Mike Dowd hit a two-out RBI single through the left side.
Snodgrass (3-1) earned the win as his 12 strikeouts were two shy of the Ducks single game record. Darin Gorski (1-1) was the tough luck loser. He went 5.2 innings, while giving up one run on five hits. Todd Coffey earned the save (3).
It was the Ducks first win of the year against Somerset in six tries.
The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until Friday, May 13th when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lancaster Barnstormers. For tickets, call 908-252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
