Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks shut out the Somerset Patriots 1-0 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Jack Snodgrass (3-1) was the story for Long Island, turning in a dominant start to earn the victory. The southpaw tossed six shutout innings, giving up just two singles and one walk while striking out 12 batters.
The only offense he needed came in the second inning. After Sean Burroughs singled, moved to second on a flyout, and advanced to third on a groundout, Mike Dowd lined a two-out RBI single to left field off of Patriots starter Darin Gorski.
Despite pitching well, Gorski (1-1) suffered the loss, yielding a run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five and two-thirds innings. Todd Coffey collected his third save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth innings, capping a perfect three innings for Long Island's bullpen.
Burroughs led the way at the plate with two hits for Long Island.
The Ducks and Patriots wrap up their three-game set on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive QuackerJack 2015 Mascot of the Year Award Pins as part three of six in the 2016 Collectors' Series. It's also a Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark. The Duck Club restaurant/bar, normally reserved for VIP/Season Ticket Holders only, will be open to all fans during the game and feature both food and drink specials.
