
Ducks outlast Patriots

Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-3 in ten innings before 6,993 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
Long Island broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the tenth inning. Third baseman Erick Almonte hit a bunt single, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Right fielder Kevin Haverbusch plated Almonte for the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly to center to give the Ducks a 4-3 win.
The Ducks tied the game 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning on a solo home run by catcher Brad King (4) to left field.
The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Center fielder Mel Stocker singled, stole second base, and scored on an RBI double by shortstop Tony Schrager.
Somerset tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Designated hitter Travis Anderson reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single by second baseman George Sandel.
The Patriots took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Shortstop Kevin Nicholson and right fielder Ryan Radmanovich singled and came around to score on a two-run double by first baseman Jim Burt to make the score 3-1.
Long Island cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning. Schrager singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Carlos Hernandez.
Ducks reliever Pete Hartmann (3-3) picked up the win, allowing a hit in two innings of work. Patriots reliever Jeff Urban (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Kevin Tolar earned his first save of the season for the Ducks.
The 2006 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday night with a 7:05 pm game against Juan Gonzalez and the Long Island Ducks. Saturday's game includes Baseballs for the first 1,000 kids presented by Somerset Quality Inn and Canada Day.
