(Central Islip, N.Y., May 20, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Somerset scratched out a run in the second on a RBI single to left by Dan DeGeorge off Ducks starter Gustavo Chacin. Long Island tied the game on Wilberto Ortiz' RBI double in the second off Patriots starter Roy Merritt.

Kraig Binick's solo homer to left-center in the third gave the Ducks a 2-1 lead, and Bryant Nelson added some insurance with a solo blast to left in the sixth. It stayed that way until the ninth when Somerset tied the game at three on a two-run single by Freddie Bynum off Jon Meloan.

However, the Ducks would load the bases in the bottom of the frame, and Shawn Williams drove home the winning run with a walk-off infield single to second.

Neither starter factored into the decision.

Chacin allowed just one run on five hits while striking out four in five innings, while Merritt gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings. Meloan (1-0) got the win despite allowing two runs on three hits in one inning of work, and T.J. Hose (1-1) suffered the loss, yielding the winning run in one and one-third innings of relief.

Williams and Nelson each had two hits, one RBI and one run scored to lead the Flock.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Monday night when they host the Lancaster Barnstormers in the first game for a three-game set. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. Right-hander Bob Zimmermann gets the start for Long Island against Lancaster righty Mark Brackman.
