Bridgeport Falls to Sugar Land in Rubber Match

(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 20, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (13-10) were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters (9-14) by a score of 8-3 on Sunday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
After the Bluefish took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single to left by Luis Lopez, Sugar Land scored the next eight runs in three innings. The Skeeters' Ben Harrison lifted a two-run shot to left in the second to give the road squad a 2-1 advantage.
In the next frame, the Skeeters pushed five more runners to the plate. The rally was highlighted by a three-run homer from Harrison to leftcenter as Sugar Land was ahead 7-1 after three.
In the fourth, Sugar Land pushed the teams' final run to the plate on an RBI double by Jason Botts to leftcenter.
Bridgeport scored the squads' final runs of the day in the fourth. Redman came up with a sacrifice fly to right and Collin DeLome laced a triple to rightcenter to bring the final runners to the plate.
Bluefish hurler, Paul Oseguera (1-2), suffered the loss as the southpaw served three innings and allowed seven runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out four. The combination of Joe Bateman, Jesse English and Kyle Zaleski pitched the rest of the afternoon. The tandem worked six frames and surrendered one run on three hits and two walks while fanning seven.
Sugar Land starter, Heath Phillips, only worked two innings and did not factor in the decision. The southpaw gave up a run on four hits and two walks in his outing. Duniesky Flores completed an-inning-and-two-thirds out of the bullpen and surrendered two runs on a hit and four walks while fanning four; but he was not given credit for the victory. Will Startup (3-1) earned the win as the southpaw delivered two-and-a-third shutout innings on two hits and three strikeouts. Michael Nix completed three innings and picked up his first save of the year. The righthander did not allow a baserunner and Bridgeport struck out once against Nix.
Bridgeport starts a three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening an hour before first pitch.
