York Revolution News Release
Chris Cody turned in a spectacular outing, pitching the York Revolution to their first road series win of the season with a 6-3 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 4,585 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Having won two of the last three games, the Revs will return home to open a seven-game homestand on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Cody (1-4) worked a season-high 6.2 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run, while walking only one batter and fanning eight, the most by any Revs pitcher so far this season. The lefty earned his first win of the year, and became the tenth pitcher in club history to win 10 games as a member of the Revs. It was also the 50th win of his pro career.
The Revs gave Cody all of the run support he would need with a six-run fourth inning, tying a season-high for runs scored in one inning.
Chris Nowak was hit by a pitch to lead off the big inning, and took third on a hit-and-run as Andres Perez singled past third baseman Kody Kirkland. Ramon Castro was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. James Shanks cracked an RBI single to right for the first run, and Perez came home as right fielder Fehlandt Lentini's throw skipped away at home plate resulting in an error. Two more runs scored on an error by Kirkland, and Scott Grimes and Michael Hernandez capped the rally with RBI singles giving York a 6-0 lead.
The Barnstormers scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth on three consecutive singles, but Cody came back to retire the next three working his way out of trouble.
Tommy Everidge drove in each of Lancaster's first two runs with RBI singles in the fourth and eighth innings, and Brad Boyer led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer to right, but Adam Thomas earned his second save recording the final four outs, including the final out of the eighth when he entered with two in scoring position and the tying run on-deck.
Lancaster starter Alan Johnson (2-3) took the loss, charged with six runs (four earned) in five innings.
Notes: The meeting was the 99th regular season "War of the Roses" matchup, with York now leading 51-48 all-time. The win comes on the five-year anniversary of the Revs winning the finale of the first ever "War of the Roses" series, taking two of three in 2007. With Cody's strong effort, Revs starters have allowed just three runs in 14.2 innings (1.84 ERA) over the last two games, and have allowed just eight runs in 23.2 innings (3.04 ERA) over the last four games. Cody improves to 4-0 lifetime in four starts against the Barnstormers. With an RBI today, Shanks has driven in 14 runs in his last 14 games played. York will send lefty Jesus Sanchez (1-2, 7.15) to the mound on Monday evening against Sugar Land southpaw Derrick Gordon (0-1, 6.00) with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. It is a Hatfield Dollar Dog Night, and is also Pizza Hut Night. Fans who buy a large pizza at participating York County Pizza Hut stores get two FREE tickets to Monday's game. Tickets are also available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
