Ducks' Lupul named CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Cincinnati Mighty Ducks right wing Joffrey Lupul has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending April 3, 2005. In four games, Lupul scored seven goals as the Mighty Ducks continued their push toward the 2005 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Lupul continued to be Cincinnati's primary scoring threat, accounting for seven of the Ducks' 11 goals last week. He provided all of the team's offense on Wednesday and Friday, scoring the lone goal in a 4-1 loss at Houston and registering his second hat trick of the season in a 3-1 win in San Antonio. Lupul then scored twice, including the game-winner, in Saturday's 3-1 win over Chicago, and opened the scoring with a power-play goal in a 4-2 win over Utah on Sunday. Lupul's current streak of scoring a goal in seven straight games is tied for the longest in the AHL this year.

In recognition of his achievement, Lupul will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Mighty Ducks home game.

The seventh overall pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Lupul leads the Mighty Ducks with 27 goals and 52 points in 59 games in 2004-05. Lupul, a 21-year-old Edmonton native, was selected to participate in the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic, but missed the event due to injury. He spent most of his rookie 2003-04 season in the NHL with Anaheim, recording 13 goals and 21 assists in 75 games, and also appeared in three AHL games with Cincinnati last year, picking up three goals and two assists.
