Iowa Stars Give Fans a Chance to Design Mascot

April 4, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

The Iowa Stars, along with radio stations Oldies 93.3 KIOA and LAZER 103.3, are giving Central Iowans a chance to design the new Iowa Stars mascot. Creative hockey fans who want to take a shot at coming up with the new mascot idea can enter their designs at www.kioa.com or www.lazer1033.com.

Many teams around the country have held these types of contests and had great results and the Iowa Stars hope to have the same success here in Des Moines. We want to have a mascot that is representative of Iowa and the Des Moines area, and who better to capture that spirit than the people who live here, said team President John Pettit.

Those interested must enter a detailed description of what the mascot would be and look like. Drawings and pictures will be accepted, but are not required to enter. The deadline for all entries is January 28, 2005.

Ten finalists will be chosen who will each receive a pair of tickets to an Iowa Stars game and Iowa Stars apparel. The Grand Prize winner will receive a pair of season tickets to the inaugural season and an Iowa Stars apparel package.

The Stars, affiliate of the National Hockey Leagues Dallas Stars, will begin play in the AHL in October 2005.
