Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 12, 2006) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced that they have re-signed pitcher Pat Mahomes for the remainder of the 2006 season.
"Pat was an integral part of our first half championship squad and wants to finish what he started," says Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "His return gives our starting rotation a big boost as we begin our quest for a second Atlantic League title."
Mahomes returns to Long Island after being signed by the Kansas City Royals organization on August 3. While with Triple-A Omaha, the former Met was 1-1 in seven appearances (five starts). His lone victory came on August 25 after striking out five in 5.1 innings of shutout ball at Oklahoma. In 18 starts for the Ducks, Mahomes amassed a 9-4 mark with a 3.78 ERA. The 2006 Atlantic League All-Star led the league with four complete games, 125 innings pitched and was tied for second in the circuit with nine wins.
The Long Island Ducks are in their seventh season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. They have averaged over 100 percent attendance capacity of 6,002-seat Citibank Park in each of their first six seasons and are one of the most successful minor league sports franchises in the country.
